Nominations and Elections
How to nominate
Convocations, lay delegates and clergy delegates may submit nominations for offices to be filled at the 102nd Annual Council. (See list of elective offices below.)
If information on nominees is to be on the diocesan website and in the packet delegates receive before the Council meeting, follow the instructions on the nomination form, noting the due date of Oct. 1, 2008. To download a nomination form, click here. Please submit to the Diocesan Office by midnight Oct. 1. E-mail: news@episcopalatlanta.org or fax: 404-601-5330.
However, nominations may also be made on the first legislative day of Council, Nov. 14. To do so, prepare 550 copies of a one-page flier with nominee's name and biographical information and the office being sought. Please present fliers to Mrs. Janet Patterson, chair of Annual Council Committee, at the start of the first day of the meeting for distribution.
Elections
Elections will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2008. Convocations, Lay Delegates, and Clergy Members may make nominations for offices listed below. If information on nominees is to be on the diocesan website, follow the instructions on the nomination form. The deadline for submission is Oct. 1.
Elective offices
► Member, Standing Committee; Diocesan Canon 3
One Lay and one Priest Member, each for a three year term; no successive full terms permitted.
The Standing Committee acts as a Council of Advice to the Bishop; consents to elections and ordinations of Bishops and to ordinations of Diocesan Priests and Deacons, and to other matters. It meets as often as needed, frequently monthly.
► Governor, Mikell Camp and Conference Center; Diocesan Canon 8
Two Governors, lay or clerical, for a three year term; no consecutive full terms.
The Board is responsible for the care and maintenance of the physical properties, the programs and activities of the Center, and the uses to which the facilities may be put. The Board meets no less than four times a year.
► Governor, Appleton Family Ministries; Diocesan Canon 9
Two Governors, lay or clerical, for a two year term; no more than two consecutive full terms.
The Board oversees the Appleton funds. It meets at least quarterly.
► Trustee, University of the South; Diocesan Canon 10
One lay Trustee, for a three-year term; no more than four consecutive full terms.
Trustees attend the annual spring meeting at Sewanee and act on issues of substance that affect the governance of the University of the South.
► Member, Ecclesiastical Trial Court; Diocesan Canon 42
One lay Member for a three-year term and one clerical Member for a four-year term.
Each must be at least 24 years old; no more than two consecutive full terms for either.
The Court tries a Priest or Deacon against whom the Diocesan Review Committee has made a Presentment for an Offense as set forth in General Convention Canon IV.1.
